People in the Lab
Dr. Cynthia Hays
Phycologist, coffee addict, mom of an almost-teenager, still enjoys teaching undergrads about evolution and marine ecology, after many (many) semesters…
MS: Florida State University, Dr. Mary Ruckeshaus and Dr. Tom Miller
PhD: UCSC, Dr. Pete Raimondi and Dr. Ingrid Parker
I’m currently an Associate Professor and Chair of the Biology Department at Keene State College. I regularly teach in the “core” of required courses for Biology majors: INBIO-111, Ecology and Evolution, and BIO-313, Population and Community Ecology. I also teach upper-level electives on marine ecology, conservation biology, and botany.
Undergraduates are central to research at Keene State
Working with research students in the lab and field is some of the most rewarding and impactful teaching that I do. Conducting research as an undergraduate builds all kinds of skills, from ‘bench skills’ (DNA extraction, PCR) and statistics, to time management, effective collaboration and creative problem solving. Research experience can also open a lot of doors for you after graduation.
If you are a KSC student (or a prospective student) and interested in learning more about what research is all about, please contact me!
